The Provincial Raft Race held on the Thames at Greenhithe
Although arranged at relatively short notice by W. Bro Dave Huntley, Charity Steward of West Kent Lodge of Charity 9610 and held in the 'closed Masonic season' the success of this event will ensure it will appear in the Special Events Team calendar in future years.
The organisation of the actual race by the local Greenhithe Sea Scout group who kindly provided oars, life jackets and the safety boat the day, was first rate.
The day was hosted by W. Bro Phil Griggs and his partner Kim of the Pier Hotel, Greenhithe.
Five rafts supported by various Masonic Centres took to the Thames at 1.00 pm on Saturday 5th September with the Welling Centre No. 2 raft being first to cross the line.
W.Bro John Holder APGM started the race and presented the trophy to the winning team.
A total of £1795 was raised for the 2015 Festival.
Special thanks to: Phil and Kim for hosting the event. Cambria Sea Scouts for their organisation. W. Bro John Holder for being starter and MC, W. Bro Terry Russell for running the raffle and W. Bro Keith Clarke for providing the barrels to build the rafts.
With a very special thanks to all the teams who took part and all those who supported the event. It was a fun day.
